North American Punjabi Trucking  Association (NAPTA) Organizing Solidarity protest at California Capitol Building in Support of Trucker’s Rights

Sacramento, CA – On Thursday, May 14, 2020 from 10.00am until 2.00pm at the California State Capitol Building, NAPTA, the first and largest Punjabi-American trucking association, is supporting the nationwide trucker’s protest centered in Washington, D.C.

Our solidarity protest will be in compliance with California health guidelines around proper social distancing during protests, limiting the number of participants, and supplementing with truck drivers circling the Capitol building to lend their voices of support.

The truck driving protest is in solidarity with our trucker brothers in highlighting the following issues:

  • Frustration with lack of transparency and accountability from brokers that makes driving unsustainable for the drivers.

  • Truck Drivers need to be included in COVID-19 HEROES Fund as essential workers.

  • Changes of Hours of Service (HOS) already submitted to the OMB office need to be implemented and seeking greater truck driver input and autonomy in the hours permissible that drivers can drive and take breaks.

  • Greater training for new truck drivers to help reduce accidents on the road

  • Basic facilities for drivers at shippers and receivers including restroom provisions

“We are absolutely in solidarity with our trucker brothers in Washington D.C. raising the issue of trucker’s rights,” said Raman Dhillon, the CEO of the North American Punjabi Trucking Association (NAPTA), “from California to Washington D.C. we are united and ask Congress and the Administration to enact laws to alleviate these needs so our ‘essential workers’ are able to support the country, their families, and our nation.”

The protest will be held at the State Capitol Building in Sacramento, CA on Thursday, May 14, 2020 from 10.00 am-2.00pm.

NAPTA promotes professional growth, prosperity, education, training, highway and driver safety for our members. We advocate the highest standards of service, conduct, safe, efficient and profitable trucking industry across all sectors and industry types, regardless of size, domicile or type of operation.
