Unless you’ve been living under a rock as a trucking industry professional, you’ve probably noticed the scramble to obtain commercial drivers licenses (CDLs) before February 7th, 2022. This is because the new Entry Level Driver Training requirements take effect today (2/7/2022). The new regulation seeks to strengthen and standardize how drivers are trained and require trucking schools to register with FMCSA’s Training Provider Registry (TPR). Although, the regulation will not affect most current CDL holders, CDL holders seeking to upgrade their license or obtain a new endorsements like hazmat will be subject to ELDT. As usual, FMCSA’s reason for implementing ELDT borders on safety.
